These two pieces of Marsha’s were inspired by “Irworobongdo”, Korean folding screens showing a landscape and dating back to the Joseon Dynasty (1392-1897.) It is thought the sun and moon might represent the king and queen, other interpretations include they represent yin and yang, or the balance of the universe. The mountains might represent a mythical kingdom. There are screens in different palaces in Korea. All have the sun, moon, 5 peaks, water and 2 trees, usually conifers. Reading an article about the screens inspired Marsha to create her own interpretations of the symbology using paint and collage.

The pieces below are watercolors and collage, using imported papers Marsha was familiar with having used them in her bookbinding business.
